Digrams i-jing allow to systematize types of human bodies and psychological features which are caused by sizes of the top part (level) and the bottom part (level) of a body. But bodies of people possess more complex forms which demand more complex gradation of levels and corresponding psychological features. Therefore it is possible to apply tetragrams of the canon of changes i-jing and to systematize types of body builds according to four levels that is shown on the scheme:
![]() |
Contours of a human body form four formal levels which
correspond to positions of lines in tetragrams i-jing: shoulders correspond to the fourth top position; waist corresponds to the third position; bones of pelvis correspond to the second position; thighs (hips) correspond to the first bottom position. Contours of human bodies form different figures according to positions of lines in tetragrams and correspond with different types of body builds. If any line is break then the appropriate formal level of a body is expressed (increased), and if a line is entire then the appropriate formal level of a body is not expressed (reduced). Images of 16 types of body builds are shown in gallery. The main in the shown images is the dark contour which specifies
figures of a body, and the white contour is marking, namely designates
the increased or reduced sizes of the basic dark contour concerning the
marking white contour.
Namely if a body level is expressed then the dark contour hides
the white contour, and if a body level is not expressed then the white contour is visible. |
There are 16 tetragrams i-jing to which there correspond 16 figures of a human
body and 16 types of body builds that is shown in gallery.
Two images are shown for each type of a build in gallery. The left images are
figurative forms, and the right images represent geometrical human forms. The
bottom level of a body is more significant and the top level of a body is less
significant in the left images that corresponds to forms of a female body and
allows to identify female proportions. And the top and bottom levels of a body
are approximately proportional in the right images that allows to compare the
shown images to human bodies of different proportional structures, namely allows
to identify proportions not only female but also male bodies.
It is necessary to consider that the shown images are symbolical or otherwise to
tell formal, but everyone allow to correlate bodies of real people to 16 types
of builds. Namely if a body of the person is comparable to the image of any
type, and also if a body of any other person is comparable with the image of the
same type then bodies of these people concern to one type of a build. And bodies
can have insignificant formal distinctions, but can be identified with one type
of a build.
If the body of the person is correlated to this or that type of a build then it
is possible to speak about psychological properties of this person. For this
purpose in gallery there are psychological definitions which characterize formal
levels of a body and allow to describe psychological properties of people. These
psychological definitions are connected with seeming visual associations which
arise at perception of human bodies, and in essence definitions are the standard
patterns which usually attribute to people with those or other body types.
Hips specify aspiration to material stability.
People with wide hips seem less mobile, and it is the reason of stability, but
people with slender hips seem more mobile and less stable.
It seems that women with wide hips are more burdened by material cares and are
more viable, though women with slender hips can be so inclined to material
anxieties, but however it seems that material stability is not so important for
them.
Besides hips specify sensuality as a person seems especially sensual than hips
are more widely. Possibly, it is caused by that women with wide hips are more
adapted for a birth of children and consequently their sensuality does not
restrain by fears. It does not mean that a degree of feelings is different at
women with wide and slender hips, but their sensuality is estimated differently.
Displays of sensuality seem natural in relation to women with wide hips, but
displays of sensuality seem the reasons of future problems in relation to women
with slender hips.
At men sensuality corresponds with potential mobility and consequently men with
slender hips seem more inclined to display of feelings, but provided that
sensuality of men has less important and other value rather than sensuality of
women. Also it seems that men with slender hips are more adapted for material
efforts rather than men with wide hips, but however men with wide hips seem more
financially stable (unshakable).
The perception of a male figure differs from perception of a female figure as
women perceive man's figures, and men perceive female figures that is the reason
of different perception. Namely men and women perceive each other as though on
the contrary. Wide bottom levels of female bodies are more important for men but
wide top levels of male bodies are more important for women.
Bones of pelvis ("os ilium") specify material resources,
namely not mean the external objective material stability which corresponds with
hips, but mean the subjective attitude of the person to material resources.
If bones of pelvis are wider than the person seems to more generous as wide
bones of pelvis predetermine swinging movements (boldness of gait) and
consequently the generosity is meant in wide movements. Namely wide movements
can be named as regal, and regality means generosity.
Smooth and wide movements it is possible to see in gaits of some models, though
sometimes men more like movements of models at which hips are more expressed
rather than bones of pelvis and gaits can be named reeling or "whirling".
At men wide bones of pelvis seem the reason of clumsy gaits. Though men with
wide bones of pelvis can be so dexterous as men with slender bones of pelvis, but
gaits seem clumsy and people seem ridiculous.
At the same time wide gait associates with disorder and carelessness, and
consequently it seems that people with wide bones of pelvis concern to a life
carelessly and do not aspire to preservation of material resources.
Total the first bottom line in tetragrams i-jing corresponds to hips and the
second line corresponds to bones of pelvis, and both lines symbolize the
attitude of a person to a material world. Hips associate with internal
materiality and bones of pelvis associate with external materiality. Terms
internal and external materiality can be understood as a subjective or objective
urgency of material assets for a person.
Waist specifies a susceptibility.
Women with a slender waist (narrow waist) seem graceful and refined, that means refinement of
perception, and women with a wide waist seem tactless and less susceptible.
At men the width or narrowness of a waist is less appreciable that is caused by
proportional features of a male body, and consequently a susceptibility and
refinement of perception have no essential value for men.
Besides people with a slender waist seem pliable and subject to influence of
external forces, and people with a wide waist seem tenacious and unshakable.
It is necessary to remind that the listed psychological characteristics are
caused by seeming associations and impressions which are caused by visual forms
of human bodies and consequently mean properties which are attributed by
observers to a person, but actually seeming impressions can be wrongful though
in essence a person should be such as is perceived by surrounding people.
Shoulders specify force of actions and confidence of
actions.
People with wide shoulders seem stronger and confident, and people with slender
shoulders seem less strong and confident, that equally concerns to men and women
but has different psychological values for men and women. Namely wide shoulders
are desirable for male figures and wide shoulders are not desirable for female
figures.
Total the third line in tetragrams i-jing corresponds to a waist and the top
fourth line corresponds to shoulders, and both lines symbolize energy. Shoulders
associate with intensive energy which is directed on the external validity, and
the waist associates with extensive energy which means influence of external
forces on human perception.
Visually shoulders and a waist are wider but hips and bones of pelvis are less
wide in male figures that corresponds with the expressed energy and not
expressed materiality. Hips and bones of pelvis are wider but shoulders and a
waist are less wide in female figures that corresponds with the expressed
materiality and not expressed energy.
In gallery of images the listed above psychological characteristics correspond
to 16 types of body builds which can be correlated with female or male bodies,
and accordingly psychological characteristics can describe male and female
properties of a person, but possess a different urgency for men and women.
Except for the listed psychological characteristics it is possible to apply any
other descriptions which can be compared to the offered formal scheme of a human
personality.
The following page results the information on types of body builds and images
in the second gallery where forms of human bodies are considered in lateral
projections.
