According to digrams of the canon of changes i-jing in frontal projections of human bodies it is possible to systematize 4 types of bodies that is shown on 1st page in this site section. These 4 types of bodies allow to analyze proportional parities of body levels, and allow to describe psychological properties connected with visible forms. But bodies of people possess not only forms but also qualities which are comparable to qualities Yin and Yang in a context of the Chinese philosophy. Namely some bodies seem strong and strained that is comparable to quality Yang, and some bodies seem soft and weakened that is comparable to quality Yin. Hence, types of bodies can have somatic type Yang or somatic type Yin, and in the sum there are 4x2=8 combinations of formal body types with somatic types that is shown on the scheme:

Four formal types of a body are systematized by means
of digrams of the canon of changes i-jing, and combinations of four
formal types with two somatic types Yin and Yang can be systematized by
means of trigrams i-jing. Namely the top and bottom lines in trigrams
correspond to lines in digrams which correspond to 4 formal types and
specify the sizes of two formal levels of a body, and the middle line in
trigrams specifies somatic types. If the middle line in trigram is entire then somatic type has quality Yang, and if the middle line is break then somatic type has quality Yin. Total there are eight combinations of four formal types with two somatic types: AYang, AYin, BYang, BYin, CYang, CYin, DYang, DYin, that is possible to see on the scheme. |
Types AYang and AYin possess powerful bone system and powerful
muscles; have wide hips and shoulders; are strong and tireless; possess slow
movements; are capable to rule and order; prefer physical work and are not
inclined to intellectual activity.
Type AYang differs by more beautiful forms of a body in comparison with type
AYin which has dense and heavy forms. Namely proportions of a body in type AYang
are more harmonious rather than proportions in type AYin.
Types BYang and BYin possess powerful muscles, but bone system is less
powerful rather than in types A, and accordingly these types are more mobile.
They prefer intellectual activity and are not inclined to physical work, but
possess great strength and energy.
Type BYang is the sample of man's beauty, namely corresponds to proportions of a
male figure. Type BYin has less beautiful and more amorphous forms, namely has
less muscles and more adipose tissue. But however type BYin seems imposing and
beautiful as well as type BYang.
Types CYang and CYin possess bone system which is equivalent to bone
system in types B, but have female forms of a body namely shoulders are narrower
and hips are wider rather than in types B. And also muscles are less powerful
rather than in types B.
These types are not inclined to intellectual activity and prefer physical work
though cannot perform heavy work which can be executed by types A.
Type CYang is the sample of female beauty, namely corresponds to proportions of
a female figure. Type CYin has less muscles and more adipose tissue in
comparison with type CYang, namely has more round forms and consequently seems
less proportional.
Types DYang and DYin possess thin bone system and weak muscles; have
narrow hips and shoulders; do not possess physical strength, but are mobile and
are inclined to intellectual activity.
Type DYang has graceful and proportional forms of a body, and type DYin seems
thin and less proportional.
The list of properties for eight types of bodies is shown in the table:

In total types B and D are more mobile in comparison with types A and C, and
types A and B are stronger in comparison with types C and D.
Types Yang have greater mobility and force in comparison with types Yin, namely
types Yang are athletic but types Yin are less athletic and possess a greater
relaxation in comparison with types Yang.
Types B and D prefer intellectual activity but types A and C prefer physical
work.
Types A and B correspond with proportions of a male body but types C and D
correspond with proportions of a female body, and also quality Yang are peculiar
to proportions of a male body but quality Yin peculiar to proportions of a
female body. But actually female bodies can correspond with types A or B, and
man's bodies can correspond with types C or D, and also man's bodies can possess
qualities Yin and female bodies can possess qualities Yang.
The similar system of 8 types of human bodies is described in the beginning of
20 centuries in the book of French physiognomists Gaston and Henri Durville
where symbols of astrological planets are used as system elements.
In comparison with system of Gaston and Henri Durville:
- Type AYang is similar to type of Mars (martian type of a body);
- Type AYin is similar to type of ground (terrestrial type of a body);
- Type BYang is similar to type of Sun (solar type of a body);
- Type BYin is similar to type of Jupiter;
- Type CYang is similar to type of Venus;
- Type CYin is similar to type of Moon (lunar type of a body);
- Type DYang is similar to type of Mercury;
- Type DYin is similar to type of Saturn.
It is necessary to consider that the listed comparisons of types of human
bodies with astrological planets are conditional as planets have names similar
to names of mythological gods, but characteristics of planets in astrology do
not correspond with parameters of bodies which gods possess in a context of
Pythagorean numerology.
On following page look morphological system which identifies bodies of
mythological gods according to numbers of Pythagorean numerology that differs
from identification by means of astrological planets in system of Gaston and Henri Durville.
Except for 4 types of bodies in frontal projections it is possible to consider
combinations of somatic types Yang and Yin with 16 types of body builds that is
shown on the following scheme:
![]() |
16 types of body builds are systematized by means of 16
tetragrams i-jing, and combinations of 16 formal types with somatic
types Yang and Yin can be systematized by means of 32 pentagrams i-jing. Two bottom lines in pentagrams correspond with bottom levels of a body (hips and bones of pelvis), and two top lines correspond with top levels of a body (shoulders and waist). Middle lines in pentagrams specify somatic types. Namely if a middle line is entire then somatic type possesses quality Yang, and if a middle line is break then somatic type possesses quality Yin. Besides it is possible to designate somatic types Yang and Yin by signs plus and a minus, and accordingly combinations of somatic types to 16 formal types of a body in frontal (face-to-face) projections can be designated by combinations of signs +1F or -16F and so on. |
The following page systematizes types of human bodies according to weight and growth, and also gives the information about morphological typologies which are known in medicine and physiology.
